Cascade la Source du Lison is a petite 10-meter-high waterfall, but it is also so much more than that. It is where river Lison springs from, and those springs originate inside of a picturesque cave in the woods.

Location and getting there



Cascade la Source du Lison is located about 2 km away from the village of Nans Sous Sainte Anne, established in the Franche Comte region of France. The village is easily reachable from multiple bigger cities around, such as Pontarlier, Dole, Ornans, or Besancon.

The road from Nans Sous Sainte Anne to Cascade la Source du Lison is carefully marked with road signs, so it won’t be hard for you to reach your final destination.

There is a well-suited parking area near the waterfall – it is about 150 m away from the site, and it provides a nice few-minute walk through a scenic forest path before reaching the spot.

When to go there and what to keep in mind

Being very close to the river spring, the Source du Lison fall never dries up, so you can go and see it all-year-round.

Anyway, the average volume of the waters almost doubles through the winter and spring seasons. In peak days – after heavy rainfalls or intense snow melting – the waterfall becomes extremely powerful and even more impressive than usual.

If you plan to visit the area in the middle of a rainy season, it’s wise to bring along your hiking shoes to keep your feet dry and warm.
