A wilderness, a path, a dream

Gorge Du Guiers Vif is a deep and picturesque canyon in the French Chartreuse massif. Broken up by numerous waterfalls and running along a sparkling river, the area is approachable by a scenic balcony road, known as Gorges du Frou.

Would you care to experience nature with a hint of healthy adrenaline, while seeing some of the marvelous landscapes of France? There you go, guided once again by Travel in Pink.

What you need to know about the road

Gorges du Frou is about 12 km long and climbs up to Pas du Frou, at approximately 620 m above sea level. The steep mountain trail is accessible for vehicle drivers, motorcycle riders, and cyclists – it connects the cities of Entre-deux-Guiers and Saint-Pierre-d’Entremont, in the Isère department of southeastern France.

Both the road and the canyon are officially a part of the regional Chartreuse Natural Park. The trail is carved in the side of the massive cliffs, taking its brave visitors literally hundreds of meters above the void.

Planning your visit to Gorge Du Guiers Vif

First of all, this is definitely not a nice place for those who fear heights. Gazing beyond the slim safety guardrails can easily make your palms sweat, so take the ride only if you feel brave and experienced enough not to lose it while driving. There are a few parking spaces provided for a short break for those in need – both cyclists and drivers can use them.

Visitors and tourists are asked to pay extra attention during light or heavy rainfalls and avoid the Gorges du Frou road during the winter. It would be wise to take a company with you on the go if you feel the need to switch places and give the wheel to someone else.

Anyway, the place is super exciting for adrenaline rush lovers and off-beat travelers who appreciate the sheer nature’s mightiness. The trail is overstuffed with fairytale material to be captured in a picture, in a video, or simply in your mind’s depths.

The canyon itself has several secret trails through the wilderness, so all you need to do is let yourself go and enter the lush magic of France as it is beyond the Eiffel tower – wild, untamed, and full of wonders.
