Celebrate light with Le Puy du Lumiere

Light is what makes us alive, energetic, and happy, is it not? Even more, at night, when light startles the eyes and moves the emotions. That’s precisely why you wouldn’t like to miss the spectacular light shows in the city of Le Puy in southern France.

Le Puy is an old French town with lots of historical and cultural monuments that are worth seeing. To make things even better, these multiple heritage locations throughout the city are illuminated at night, forming a one-of-a-kind video mapping attraction.

The Notre-Dame du Puy Cathedral

The Cathedral is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela. It is the seat of the Bishop of Le Puy and forms the highest point of the city. The Cathedral bears architectural styles from a period of 1,000 years (5th-15th century), which gives it an individual, rich appearance. It is a great site to watch the sound and light show since it has 3-dimensional images modeled onto the ornamentation of the monument.

The Brives-Charensac Media Library

The Library is positioned on the shore of the river Loire, which makes the light show on this spot a unique experience. Spectators will be able to contemplate the reflections in the water and take priceless images – a real living watercolor.

The Saint-Alexis Chapel

Here you will see the story of Marquis de Lafayette, born near Le Puy-en-Velay, a military officer and revolutionary on both shores of the ocean – in France and the USA. You will also learn the story of the Beast of Gevaudan – a man-eating animal that terrorized people in the former province of Gévaudan in France.

The City Hall

On the façade of the City Hall, you will immerse yourself in the liquid watercolor of the French flag. Blue, white and red will shine, melt, spread and form diverse symbols and shapes – a celebration of the Republic!

The Crozatier Museum

The museum will awake in a fantastic dance of various wild animals, plants, ancient inventions, and artifacts – as in a surrealistic fairytale!

The Plot Square

The most important spot in town where all the people gather together – the old Plot Square will also host the light show at night. Named one of the 10 most beautiful markets in France, it’s a place to find a wide variety of farm fruits, vegetables, animals, and Le Puy’s trademark – the Green Lentils.

The Saint-Michel d’Aiguilhe Chapel

The chapel is located on top of 85-meters-high volcano rock. It was built in 969 and was dedicated to Archangel Michael as he is the patron of mountaintops. On the rock, you will see the birth of the volcano and the battle between St. Michael and the dragon. Then the volcano will erupt in a spectacular view, and the four seasons of the region will “blossom” in stunning colors in front of your eyes.

The old bridge of Brives-Charensac

On the semi-preserved bridge, visitors will be able to see flora and fauna of the river Loire. They will travel from the spring of the river through France, cross mountains and visit the old castles of the French kings. Finally, spectators will dive with the stream into the Atlantic ocean.

The Theater

Inaugurated at the end of the XIX century, the Puy-en-Velay Theater was built in Italian style and today is listed as a historical monument. It has retained almost all of its original arrangements and has painted decoration. Your senses will be pleased by the magic of movement, sound, and images representing all the arts that the theatre hosts.

If you fancy visiting small historical towns and breathe in a fairytale for a while, Le Puy is the place for you! Enjoy the exotic French summer and the delicious cuisine!
