History of Parc de Majolan

It was built in the 19th century by the landscape designer Le Breton, in the romantic baroque style. Built for ten years from 1870 to 1880 it was then only a swamp. The land and the castle belonged to a wealthy banker, Jean Gustave Piganeau who owned it by his marriage to the daughter of Joseph Prom, owner of the estate. History states that the park was initially built to comfort his sick daughter.

The banker eventually went bankrupt and sold the castle along with the park to a farmer in the 1950s.

A Work of Art

The park is a perfect example of the expertise of architects, engineers, artisans and artists of the late 19th century. Starting with a 20-acre swampy area, the land was cleared with shovels to create a 4-acre lake by diverting La Jalle river.

This vast natural space with artificial caves and false ruins, canyons speak highly of the hydraulic ingenuity provided in this park to create fountains and water geysers.

In Parc de Majolan fauna and flora and the past and the present coexist harmoniously. The ancient bridges, artificial caves seeming to bear the marks of ancient civilisation and the mansion that’s by the lake which was built on a set of prehistoric caves gives the park an enchanted, intriguing fee to it.

For a one-hour walk, you can enjoy nature in some of the wild trails and the breath-taking view of the lake along the main path.

Loaded with life and history, Parc de Majolan is the ideal meeting place for nature lovers to unwind from their busy schedules and. regenerate their energy
