Mont-Saint-Michel is one of the most popular places in France.

It’s a small island that can be reached only by shuttle. Once at the entrance of the castle you can walk around the island but only with low tides. Be careful when you walk too far as the tides can have a difference of 14 meters and can the water can come up really fast.
Once inside the walls of the castle you can walk up the small streets to the abbey all the way on the top.
The streets are packed with restaurants, gift shops and hotel and in the high season it can be really crowded.

The entrance and the shuttle to the castle is free of charge but you still have to pay the parking fee if you came by car. If you want to visit the chapel you still have to pay an additional entrance fee but if you have the time it is definitely worth the visit.
