History of The Bourscheid Castle

The construction of the palace dates back to the year 1000 when it was erected on top of an even older building. There is archeological evidence that the initial structures on the site date as far back as Roman times. 

Later on, the Bourscheid Castle was extended and reimbursed several times on different occasions. This happened mainly through the 14th, 15th, and 16th centuries, which added outer walls, a courtyard, several additional towers, and artillery bastions to the building.

In the 20th century, the Bourscheid Castle became a listed cultural site and underwent extensive restoration works. Nowadays, it is available for the general public to enjoy the open-air remains or even rent some of the castle’s spaces for private events.

Planning Your Visit to The Bourscheid Castle

The palace is accessible all-year-round with differing opening hours during the summer and winter season. Anyway, you can freely visit the Bourscheid Castle without prior reservation, and for the symbolic prices of € 4 to € 7 for different age groups. Children under the age of five are allowed to enter the castle free of charge.

For an extra fee, groups can enroll in a professionally guided tour throughout the castle, a prior reservation for which must be addressed at least five working days in advance. On-site audio guides for the site are available at all times in Luxembourgish, French, German, Dutch, English, Spanish, and Russian.
